The Bank
reworking the old to regenerate the new community Spirit
A community development trust, who were striving to reinvigorate their town by evoking positive changes, purchased an empty run down building to focus as their new community hub. We were appointed to help transform the former bank building and create flexible spaces for them to run clubs, classes, a community cafe and some small lettable business units.
Alongside full reorganisation of the internal spaces, repairs and upgrades to the building fabric and environmental performance, a delicate extension and insertion of lifts and modern servicing, we created a new civic entrance space to transform the connection to the street.
Replacing haphazard planting, patched tarmac, and a narrow concrete ramp, this new public
gathering space at the heart of the community provides barrier free access, space for the cafe
to spill out and a new gathering space for events.
The design reworks the old to help regenerate community spirit with added sparkle for the
users, value for the future and functionality to the existing quality fabric of the bank. Simple
but transformational change, helps to support community progression.
