Platthorn House
arts and crafts rebuild of a former modest cottage
We were commissioned to rebuild and extend a small early 20th century arts and crafts cottage
that was full to the brim with a family of six (including four teenagers), using a cupboard as a
kitchen and had only one bathroom. Simply more space and facilities were needed.
Alongside reworking and reimagining the existing spaces, a large full width extension was
added to the rear, to add space, light, interest and connection to the mature south facing
gardens. Inspired by the character and material detail of the cottage the new rear elevation
features a sweeping curved copper roof, with stepped glazed screen connecting the garden to
a beautiful double height family living space.
Delicate crafted details continue throughout. Glass to glass corners, stained glass, carved
stone, pre-patinated copper panels and bespoke timber detail.
