Shed House
a modern zinc home inspired by the agricultural farm setting
This new home expands a group of agricultural farm buildings, set within privately owned land
overlooking a reservoir, to provide much needed accommodation for a growing family.
The house sits on a split level site perpendicular to the rear of the original farm steading and creates
and defines a lower working courtyard and an upper private garden.
Two storeys of family accommodation connect to the private garden and the reservoir views whilst a
lower ground floor provides servicing spaces and connects the house to the working farm.
The design draws on the form, proportion and materiality of the surrounding agricultural
architecture. The simple cubic form with a mono-pitch roof is wrapped in standing seam zinc
cladding with large barn-like openings sitting on a solid concrete plinth.
