Tanglewood House
reimagining a 60s chalet

This project was all about transformation. Taking a tired, dated, failing chalet and transforming the perception, flow of the spaces, fabric quality and the energy performance to create a modern efficient family home.

Reimagining the roof forms, reproportioning the fenestrations, recladding and extending the walls and replacing the surface coverings together transform the fabric shell. A large elevated terrace creates much needed connection to the south facing garden, a curving rear extension provides more living space terminating with an extended roof covering to create shelter for parking and entry.

Cloaked with extensions on two sides, the remaining walls, floors and roofs were heavily insulated and all windows replaced to provide a highly efficient building shell supported with a new solar heating system.
